Arch Linux 2008.06(Overlord) Released!

http://www.archlinux.org/news/398/

Finally another snapshot for Arch. Installed it yesterday, works great. You can also just run 'pacman -Syu' and you'll be completely up to date as well. The joy of a rolling release, no re installs, unless you want to.

A great review from Celettu on the Arch forums; http://celettu.wordpress.com/2008/06/25/arch-linux-200806-overlord/

Zack

Hello everyone. Glad to be here.

So, as a favior to Rich, I'll be taking the drivers seat for a while here at OpenAddict.com. I'll start by giving you a bit of information about myself.

Something is afoot at the Circle-K

Wait a second, did I read that correctly? Those $199 Linux PC's that Wal-Mart could not keep on the shelves in 600 stores is now being discontinued?

Why would an immensely popular product be discontinued suddenly due to it's "lack of popularity"? Does that make sense to anyone? Mark my words - there's something fishy about this and I bet we're going to see some details emerge in the coming weeks regarding exactly why the computer was shelved (no pun intended) despite it selling out.

Is the Open Source Community too rude or abrasive to outsiders?

Now before you send off the flames, this isn't a touchy-feely, can't-we-all-just-get-along article. I'm simply exploring the idea that the Open Source Community in general has a tendency to be very abrasive at times. Much more so than some other communities in which I participate. Is it the mostly online, distributed nature of the OSS community where we don't have to look at someone in the eye before we flame them? Are the members of the community generally less professional or have worse communication skills than others? Maybe a combination of all of these factors?

GNOME/openSUSE meeting

Greetings GNOME/openSUSE lovers, the GNOME team will be holding its next meeting this Thursday at noon EDT/18:00CST/1600 GMT).

As part of our experimentation with meeting format, this week we'll have Stefan Seyfried attend from the mobile devices team to discuss a little about the state of bluetooth (the bluez stack) and bluetooth in GNOME for 10.3 (not good) and in 11.0 (will be *much* better) followed by some QA.

[Info-gplv3] Compliance Lab IRC Meeting October 24, 2007

On October 24, at 14:00 US Eastern Time (18:00 UTC), the FSF Compliance Lab will hold a public Q&A session. We'll discuss some recent FUD surrounding GPLv3, and then open the floor to questions about GNU licenses generally. If you've seen some bad reporting about licenses recently, or just want to ask that question that's been bugging you for a while, come join us and we'll get everything cleared up for you.

The meeting will take place in the #gplv3-meeting channel on freenode[1].
